A very important event for men was held in Christchurch today. The Canterbury Men's Centre hosted a number of academics, politicians, clinicians, and other community organizations to discuss the issues facing men.
There was a lot of commentary about acknowledging men as victims of domestic
violence and sexual abuse. It was very privileged to not only have attend the event but to be a guest presenter as well. There was a lot of optimism that this event will make a difference as a number of members of parliament were in attendance. There was even hope that a ministry of men's affairs will develop including a national policy for men's health. The hope was buoyed by the fact that a ministry was already established for women.
